Landmark Hospitals

Landmark Hospital of Athens, the area's only long-term acure care hospital (LTACH), opened in July 2008 to serve the Northeast Georgia community.  The facility includes 42 private rooms that are all intensive care unit capable. Landmark Hospital is a regional referal center for North Georgia, serving as the palce for other hospitals to send critically ill patients who need long-term acute care.  The hospital is staffed for 25-hour registered nursing care as well as registered respiratory care with certification in advanced cardiac life support as well as offering in-house physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, a low patient-to-staff ratio, multiple medical specialists, family support groups, a pharmacy, dietician, and a private on-site chapel and chaplain.

In addition, the Georgia Health Sciences Campus and the University of Georgia College of Public Health call Athens home.  Athens is also the medical hub for the northeast Georgia and lake country regions, with a variety of board certified medical specialists in diverse areas, including oncology, cardiology and neurology.
